For many professionals in the building performance industry, getting a proctored BPI certification exam is a crucial step. But the traditional process of traveling to a BPI testing center? That can be a hassle—not to mention expensive. With the advancements in remote testing, however, all of that has changed. Now, you can take your BPI certification exams from your home or office, saving both time and money while maintaining flexibility.
In this post, we’ll walk through the many benefits of remote testing for BPI exams, how it works, and why it’s the perfect solution for both new certifications and BPI recertification exams.

The Convenience of Testing from Anywhere

The Convenience of Testing from Anywhere section

We all know how inconvenient it can be to travel for an exam. The packing of testing equipment, the long drive or flight, and the added cost of accommodations, it’s just one more thing to worry about. With remote testing, that stress is eliminated. You don’t need to leave the comfort of your home to take your BPI certification exam anymore. Of course, the requirements vary subtly by certification exam but normally all you need is a computer, a reliable internet connection, and a quiet space.

Save Time, Save Money

The biggest advantage here are the savings in cost and time. If you’ve had to travel to a BPI test center before, you’re probably aware of how much time you can spend just preparing for the journey, let alone the time actually spent on the road or waiting for your exam. Plus, think of the money you’d spend on gas, airfare, hotel stays, and meals while you’re away from home. That’s a lot of extra expenses that come with traditional testing without even discussing the scheduling nightmare. With our EnergyScore® Remote BPI Testing you simply click our calendar link and schedule your exam, that’s it!

With our EnergyScore® Remote BPI Testing, all of that is eliminated. No travel, no hotels, no extra costs and no scheduling nightmares. You can focus entirely on preparing for the exam itself, without having to factor in the extra expenses. Get trained, get tested, get back to work without even leaving your house!

And this isn’t just a benefit for those new to the field. Professionals renewing their BPI certification or advancing their careers also enjoy these perks. By being able to take BPI recertification exams remotely, there’s no need to factor in travel expenses every time your certification needs renewal.

How Remote Proctoring Works

You might wonder: How does this remote testing process actually work? After all, exams still need to be proctored to maintain fairness and integrity. This is where EnergyScore® steps in. We actually developed these remote proctoring protocols in 2017 and during COVID they were adopted by BPI. So, we at EnergyScore will ensuring that your BPI exam runs smoothly from start to finish.

Here’s a quick rundown of what the process looks like:

1.Choose Your Time

Once you’ve decided to take the EnergyScore® Remote BPI Testing register for your course or exam. You will instantly get instructions and a link to easily schedule a time that fits your availability. We test every week so whether it’s a morning or late afternoon afternoon, the flexibility is there for you.

2.Prepare Your Space

You’ll need a quiet, distraction-free environment to take the exam. Once everything is set, your testing area will be monitored via video feed, and the exam runs on an EnergyScore® computer in our office. The proctor will be able to observe your exam screen and live feed as you complete the exam. These live video feeds will be recorded to ensures everything is on the up and up, just like at a physical test center.

3.Real-Time Proctoring

During the exam, the proctor will monitor your progress, making sure everything runs smoothly.  Additionally, we will provide access to approved BPI standards and keep track of the test time.

4.Immediate Results

Your results are typically available right after you finish. No more waiting for weeks—instant feedback can be a game-changer, especially when you’re eager to know how you did or your local energy efficiency program or employer requires that certification.

Field Exams: No More Equipment Worries

One of the trickier aspects of BPI field exams has been the requirement of specialized equipment. In the past, many candidates would drive or fly hours to take exams because they did not have the necessary equipment available. But EnergyScore® has removed this barrier with its shippable BPI test kits.

You can now rent the equipment you need for your BPI field exam without worrying about purchasing it. EnergyScore® will ship the kit straight to your door, and once you’re done, you simply send it back using a prepaid label. This way, you get to complete your exam without
travel or committing to a large upfront investment in equipment. It’s easy, affordable, and takes the pressure off.
